Part 2: Building Early Connections - Finding Your Village in Prince George’s County

Welcome back to our community resource series! If you caught Part 1, you know how passionate I am about making sure our families here in Prince George’s County and the surrounding D.C. suburbs have everything they need to thrive.

When your child has a developmental delay or is neurodivergent, navigating the system can feel overwhelming. But you don't have to do it alone. As a local early intervention speech-language pathologist, I encourage parents to connect with the right community support.

Today, we are diving into Part 2 of our Early Connections resource guide, sponsored by the PG County Department of Health and the County Council. These fantastic organizations are dedicated to strengthening your family, offering everything from parent-to-parent emotional support to help finding inclusive childcare.

5 Incredible Resources for PG County Families

Here are five organizations making a massive difference for families of children with developmental disabilities and unique learning needs right in our backyard:

  • ZERO TO THREE: This national powerhouse focuses entirely on ensuring babies and toddlers get a strong start in life. They provide incredible, evidence-based resources to help parents maximize their little one’s potential during those critical first three years.

  • The Parents’ Place of Maryland: Built on a beautiful "families helping families" philosophy, this organization is staffed primarily by parents who have walked in your shoes. They offer free support, education, and resources to help you become the most effective voice for your child.

  • The Uplyft Group: Based right in Lanham, Maryland, this fantastic non-profit (formerly known as the Autism Ally Group) focuses on advancing inclusion, dignity, and opportunity. They have built an amazing ecosystem of programs to empower neurodivergent children and strengthen families.

  • Spectrum of Hope: This group is all about building hope, health, and happiness. They work tirelessly to secure opportunities and community experiences so that children living with autism and related abilities can experience a true sense of well-being.

  • Maryland Coalition of Families (MCF): MCF provides completely free Family Peer Support Specialists. If your family is navigating behavioral health, mental health, or system navigation challenges, these specialists use their own lived experiences to guide and support you.
